Even more interesting is that 8% of grade schoolers attended an arts and crafts fair in 2002 while 49% of college graduates and 52% of master's and Ph.D.'s went to an arts and crafts fair. Someone has to explain why a college graduate is more likely to attend an arts and crafts fair than a grade schooler. Isn't grade school itself an arts and crafts fair?

Opera, Musical Play, Non-Musical Play...Where We Go
According to the U.S. National Endowment for the Arts' "Attendance rates for various arts activities," 3% of men and 4% of women attended an opera in 2002. In fact, the rates of attendance for various arts activities from museum visit to non-musical play (isn't that a "play?") to musical play (isn't that an "opera?"... well, I guess it might include Broadway) were roughly equal for men and women. As expected, however, jazz performance is slightly more macho than classical, and plays of any kind tend to be less macho. The big gap was apparent in attendance for arts and crafts fairs: 39% of women, 27% of men.

Of late, arts and crafts fairs have a certain hipster appeal.
I'll fess up that I am not part of the trace percentage of those who've seen an an opera, at least since 1996. That year, my then-wife dragged me (and 2 colleagues) to see Lohengrin at the Dresden Opera House. I think it clocked in at nearly 5 hours!
Lucky, old man beltz! What I would give to see Lohengrin in Dresden! If you are just getting started, try La Traviata.
My knowledge of arts and crafts is dated. I love the concept of the bizarre bazaar and the felt club.
bizarre bazaar. That is cool.
Opera is cooler, though :-)
A "single ticket" to an arts and crafts show! How sad.
By the way, Arts and Crafts clubs are going rogue. Apparently, there's been a rise in tongue-depressor art in the med student population, and dioramas of complex surgical procedures are also the rage.
And to hell will organized opera; we could make our own musical play; my mom's got some old dresses, and we can use my dad's barn.
Olivia, this just to let you know I'm paying attention.
